Differential Higgs distributions as a unique window to New Physics at the LHC

Research Activities

The ERC Starting Grant Group is embedded in the DESY ATLAS group. The group participates in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. We are using the dataset that has been/will be collected by the ATLAS experiment between 2015 and 2018 to measure differential cross sections to study in detail the properties of the Higgs boson. For these measurements, we use Higgs boson decays into two photons and into four leptons, which can be reconstructed with high efficiency and excellent resolution. The measurements are compared to theoretical predictions, and we are aiming to perform a measurement of the Higgs boson Yukawa couplings from the differential distributions, as well as to search for contributions of effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. As part of these measurements, we are contributing to the reconstruction of photons and electrons and the identification of photons at the ATLAS experiment.
